"Had a Big Impact on My Entire Online Presence"

I went through the SEO Demystified course when I was just starting my blog and I'm glad I did it then. The biggest benefit I got is a better understanding of how search engines "think," which let me put a plan together for "SEO'ing" my blog.

Specifically, SEO Demystified:

  • Showed me the importance of creating a link-building strategy that focused on back-links to specific pages, rather than just to my homepage. Now, when I comment on other blogs, I always link to a specific page on my blog, rather than my homepage. And, in my article marketing, I do the same. The result: my pages with specific back-links rank higher on Google and are among my blog's leading entry points.

  • Defined the difference between page Titles and Keywords in regards to SEO. During the course, I wound up re-doing all of my blog's Page Titles. The result: Noticeable higher search results for short- and long-tail keywords. I'm on the first page of Google for some long-tail keywords I hadn't even considered when writing the post!

  • Lead to a higher Alexa Traffic Rank for my blog. I'd say that this is the result of all of the optimizing I'd done during and since the course, not just one thing. When I started the course, my blog's Alexa rank was in the 8 million range. After about two weeks, it was in the 800,000 range. Since then, it has steadily increased. As I write this, less then three months later, my rank is below 360,000 -- and increasing.
