Internet marketing, simply put, is marketing/advertising done via the internet. (Duhhh right?)
You see, every day, literally over 2 billion people are surfing the internet and odds are, some of those exact people may be your existing customers or potential future customers.
They are on the internet looking for you, for your products, for your services, for YOUR business. What happens if they can’t find you?
Exactly, they go to your competitors who happen to be marketing online to them. Your loss, their gain. Ouch.
Internet marketing is how you ensure that these customers or would be customers find YOUR business online so they can purchase your product/services whether online or by coming into your store.
It’s very much like traditional marketing except instead of a store front, you now have a website, instead of a cash register, you have an “electronic shopping cart”, instead of an actual human sales team, you have website content, and instead of medium like Yellow Pages and newspaper ads, you have the search engines (where customers go to “search” for your products/services).
Let’s go ahead and break down internet marketing into its major components:
- Website (your virtual online storefront)
- Traffic (how you get visitors to your storefront)
- Conversion (how you get your website to “make sales” for you 24/7)
